Large Letter Postcard is a term used to describe a postcard which has the name of a place shown as a series of very large letters, inside of each of which is a picture of that locale.

Much of the fame of Pikes Peak is due to its location along the eastern edge of the Rockies.

Hello! My name is David Shankbone, and I am a photographer, writer and Vice President of the non-profit Wikimedia New York City, Inc. For the last three years I engaged in a public art project on Wikipedia, where my photography illustrates over 4,000 articles, from subway stations to Martin Scorsese; from Madison Avenue to Madonna; from the Rocky Mountains of Colorado to the hills of southern Lebanon. I have released all of my photography, including portraits of over 500 people famous in various walks of life, for the public to use. The totality of the work is a documentation of human existence, and I release the images at the highest resolution available.Pikes Peak is the easternmost fourteen thousand foot peak in the United States. Unlike most other similarly tall mountains in Colorado, it serves as a visible landmark for many miles to the east, far into the Great Plains of Colorado. As one drives south on Interstate 25 (I-25) towards the city of Colorado Springs, it comes into view from a distance of more than 130 miles (210 km). On a clear day, the peak can be seen from Denver (over 60 miles (97 km) north), and from locations near the Kansas border to the east.

Pikes Peak is made of a characteristic pink granite, called Pikes Peak granite. The pink colour is due to a large amount of potassium feldspar. The granite was formed by an igneous intrusion in the Pre-Cambrian, approximately 1.05 billion years ago, during the Grenville orogeny.
